Photography at the epic Yorkshire Tipi Venue, Lake Henry, Alexander Weddings

Alexander Weddings & events Lake Henry wedding photography.

I think it’s fair to say I love Tipi weddings!

To be recommended as an Alexander Weddings & events wedding photographer is a real honour. One of the best tipi wedding venues in Yorkshire, Lake Henry boasts a spectacular lakeside location and always a great atmosphere.

I have had the pleasure of photographing a few weddings now (more than anyone else I believe) at Alexander Weddings since they opened in 2021. So I am well placed to give my top photography tips and information on the venue that will hopefully help with your wedding planning.

Every time I return to Lake Henry I am reminded of just why couples choose the venue for their wedding. From the huge tipi space, outdoor ceremony location and lakeside scenery; to the incredible wedding village and pods that provide on site accommodation. You have everything you need for the most amazing tipi wedding.

Alexander Wedding & Events, Lake Henry – The Venue

Alexander Weddings at Lake Henry has a lot to offer couples on their wedding day. You get the initial wow factor as your guests drive through the farm and see the tops of the tipis in the distance. As you approach, you see the lake and surrounding woodland, setting the scene as the perfect wedding venue. Located near the village of East Cowton, Northallerton, you are nestled in 10 acres of North Yorkshire countryside. With Lake Henry itself providing the backdrop to your tipi wedding.

Alexander Weddings boasts 4 tipis, allowing you to have an area to eat as well as the dance floor setup, so no disruption setting up different areas in the middle of the day. The ceremony can take place outside by the lake with the wooden tree benches providing space for up to 160 guests. If the weather doesn’t play ball then the dance floor space can double as your ceremony space without disturbing your seating or table setups.

The main tipi entrance is off the decked area overlooking Lake Henry, it’s a great space to have drinks throughout the day, or even have a day band or entertainment. There is also the option for an outside bar to serve your welcome drinks from and save any waiting at the main bar inside the tipi. Lawrence, Nina &Meg (the dream team) behind Alexander Weddings have everything covered, as a purpose built wedding venue they can cater for up to 160 guests, seated bench style in the tipi. Although you can do whatever you want with the space! It never fails to amaze, especially if you are planning a festival style wedding.

Wedding Photography at Alexander Weddings

It’s a dream to photograph weddings at Lake Henry, I have had so many fun weddings, the location, team and incredible setting ensures there are loads of options for your wedding photos. Whether you want your backdrop as trees, the lake or the tipis, you also have a field at the back of the wedding village, perfect if you want to an open backdrop for your couples or group photos. You also get some lovely sunsets over that back field.

With four tipis, your have plenty of space for whatever your wedding plans involve. I photographed a wedding in the summer and the couple had an 8 piece band for the evening and still had a lot of space for dancing *yes it was as epic as it sounds. I have even photographed a bride arriving around the lake on a horse!

Some recent weddings I have photographed at Alexander Weddings:

“Just wanted to say we’ve just had a look through the pictures and they are absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much. It’s so lovely to see everyone with a huge smile on their faces in every single photo – nice to know everyone was clearly enjoying themselves as much as we were! You managed to capture every second of the day perfectly all the way till the end, thank you so much for staying so late!”

What’s the deal with Tipis?

There is no denying that Tipi weddings are on the rise in the UK. As weddings evolve and more couples look for DIY options, Tipis can be the answer. One of the huge reasons that I love Alexander Weddings is their flexibility for couples. You get the benefits of the tipi atmosphere with a wonderful location, a brilliant team who support with the planning but with the benefits of DIY weddings; a wider choice of suppliers and the venue is yours for a few days.

Based within Cornhill Farm, Alexander Weddings started as an option for couples looking for the best service levels but in a rustic Tipi setting. All of my weddings at the venue have been amazing, the team ensure everything runs smoothly and the constant developments means you get one of the most versatile tipi venues in the UK.

The wedding village allows you to make a weekend of your celebrations and offers an incredible festival vibe. One of the weddings I photographed, I covered the Friday night in the wedding village. It was the perfect setting for everyone to relax and hangout ahead of the wedding day. Lots of alcohol, rounders and cricket lasted well into the night! Your stay includes breakfast cooked on site. The wedding village can sleep up to 90 guests.

One of the best things about tipi weddings is the atmosphere, celebrating with all your friends and family under the canvas is always special. It can also be tough for photographers. Scott was so professional and patient with all of the guests. He took the time to understand what our needs were first and what we were looking for in our photographs. If felt like the day was not taken up with ‘cheesy’ photos and we were so happy with the photographs
