Top 10 Wedding Venues in Yorkshire

Before we look at the top 10 wedding venues in Yorkshire, let me start by saying I haven’t been to every venue in Yorkshire. There are so many amazing venues it is hard to narrow it down to just 10. I may also see venues differently as a photographer to how other people might see them. What makes the perfect venue for your wedding will be down to what you are looking for and how you imagine your day.

That being said I have a collection of 10 amazing Yorkshire wedding venues, each providing plenty of options for your wedding day and hopefully it gives you a good idea of just some of the amazing venues we have here in Yorkshire. Trust me your wedding would be amazing at any of these places.

The Normans Weddings, York

Located just outside York city centre, The Normans farm is a fantastic venue, newly renovated for weddings. With ample parking, some accommodation on site and open land on all sides, it is the perfect setting for your farm styled wedding.

You get exclusive use of the venue, which includes a courtyard area, the barn for the ceremony and a marquee inside another barn for the reception. The staff are some of the best I have come across at a venue and there are countless options for photos both in the venue and around.

The barn where the ceremony is held has an amazing look to it and the back wall includes fairy lights, with candles helping to complete the ambient feeling.

You can also read more and contact The Normans via their website here.

Danby Castle Weddings, Whitby

Danby Castle is located outside of Whitby, nestled in the North York Moors and not far from the town of Middlesbrough. It’s perfectly located for Yorkshire and the North East. As you can imagine with the location, the views are stunning with plenty of options for photographs and the whole feel of the venue is perfect for a country wedding.

There is plenty of parking and nearby cottages that you can rent should you wish to stay. There are also a number of transport options available including coach companies that can navigate the country roads to the venue.

At Danby Castle you have everything from outdoor ruins to country views and an awesome collection of rooms to hold your actual wedding in. For a photographer it’s a great venue, with a huge number of options for photos, it’s one of those venues you love to shoot at.

If you are thinking of having your wedding at Danby Castle you can find more information here.

Acklam Hall, Middlesbrough

I may be biased as my company is based at Acklam Hall but the first time you come down the drive and see the amazing house you see why it is one of the most popular venues in Middlesbrough. Plenty of parking and close to the centre of Middlesbrough so no issues with transport and taxis. A very impressive venue for your wedding.

At Acklam Hall you have plenty of options for rooms depending on the size of your wedding and the staff are always on hand to help you on your day. A newly refurbished venue which will provide a great backdrop for your special day.

Find out more about Acklam Hall weddings over on their website.

The Hospitium, York

Located inside the museum gardens in the centre of York, The Hospitium is a gorgeous venue for any wedding. The building can hold your ceremony as well as your reception and although there is no parking it is walking distance from the city centre and a pay and display car park is also close by.

Having the museum gardens for your images allows for a great background as well as plenty of space for your wedding party. The gardens are still open to the public but not The Hospitium and you get a roped off area around the building.

Inside the building is full of character features such as stone pillars and original windows. The ceremony room is light and is perfect in the summer or on a crisp winters day.

This is one of my favourite venues in York. To find out more about weddings at The Hospitium check their site out here.

Ox Pasture Hall, Scarborough

Another venue in the North York Moors, this time just outside of Scarborough. As you would expect it has amazing views and a huge space for all your wedding guests. You can even get married outside if the weather plays ball!

A great hotel in a rural location. This is the perfect venue if you want a rustic hotel with a lovely outdoor space for your wedding photos.

The reception room has lovely beams and is a huge space complete with lovely views of the outside. The bar is in the same room as well which helps keep all your guests in the same room for any entertainment you have planned, something I really like at a venue.

Weddings at Ox Pasture Hall are especially great if your guests stay at the hotel, but it is also only a few miles from Scarborough. You can find out more information here.

Papakata tents, various

Ok I know what you are saying this isn’t technically a venue, they hire tipi’s and tents. They do however have a base in York and know of plenty of fields which you can hire if you don’t have the space yourself. I don’t like to favour particular weddings as they are all amazing in their own ways, but some of my favourites have been in Papakata tipi’s and tents.

With so many options to personalise your tent from fire pits to lighting, carpets and a whole host of tables and dance floors they are the perfect space for any wedding. To see the full list of options you can contact them through their website here. The atmosphere inside these tents is something you can’t really get at a normal venue.

Trust me, once you hear a full band playing in one of these tipi’s you will fall in love with them.

Hazlewood Castle, Leeds

If you are looking for a grand venue then Hazlewood Castle might be for you. A beautiful backdrop for your wedding day with one of the best looking venues in Yorkshire. Loads of parking, rooms and it’s just off the A64 and easily signposted.

Set in it’s own grounds there are countless options for photos both inside and outside. With a variety of rooms depending on the size of your ceremony and reception. This is one of the most popular venues in the area so if you are looking for a Saturday in peak season you better enquire quickly via their website here.

Ripley Castle, Harrogate

Another amazing venue in North Yorkshire and one of my favourites. Located just outside Harrogate, Ripley Castle is a large venue with loads of features both inside and outside. They often have more than one wedding on the same day especially in the busy season however the staff do an amazing job of keeping everything running really smoothly.

A truly special venue for your wedding day and a joy for a wedding photographer. Regardless of weather, this location provides a lot of options for images and is up there as arguably one of the top wedding venues in Yorkshire.

The Priests House, Barden Tower

I know I know, and I can count, this is number 11 but I simply had to include it. With stunning countryside views and amazing ceremony room it is a brilliant choice for your wedding. Located on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales about 20 miles from Harrogate it makes a beautiful backdrop for your wedding. They can cater for your ceremony as well as reception and the staff are amazing.

The Priests House sits next to Barden Tower with the ceremony taking place in the Old Chapel. Although access is by country road it’s no problem for coaches and there is a car park on site. Another bonus is you have the building all to yourself on your wedding day with only one wedding at a time.

The Priests House is definitely a contender if you are looking for a wedding venue in the Yorkshire Dales. To find out more information you can visit their website here.

Oulton Hall, Leeds.

A fantastic, large venue just outside of Leeds. Oulton Hall boasts plenty of grounds and outdoor space as well as inside space. I recently had a wedding here with over 200 guests, so space is not a problem.

You can get married at the venue but there is also a church very close by should you prefer that option. You can read more about Oulton Hall on their website here.

Take a look at my real wedding photographed at Oulton Hall.

A couple of venues also worth a mention are Applewood Weddings, a truly unique woodland setting near Leeds, Carlton Towers, a very impressive venue just outside of Selby and Crathorne Hall, a fantastic looking venue near Yarm.
